Fire In Flin Flon

(February 6, 2011) Cranberry Portage RCMP and local emergency services were called to the Bakers Narrows Lodge just after 6 Saturday morning. When they arrived they found the Lodge completely engulfed in flames. An investigator from the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner was called in to assist with the investigation into the cause.

              Owner Rod Baynton says they advised him they determined the cause was inconclusive and accidental but they suspect it may have been an electrical problem near the roof.

              Baynton said he had a group of contractors arrive yesterday to stay at his cabins and he is taking care of their meals from a smaller kitchen near the Lodge. He said he will have to meet with his insurance company and his family before deciding the future of the Lodge.

              He thanked the Flin Flon Fire Department for spending ten hours out there Saturday pouring water on the fire.
